EnvelopesSigning

What fields can I place, and how do I assign them to signers?

Place signature, text, date, and other fields on your documents and assign each one to a recipient.

Fields are the boxes your recipients fill in — a signature, a date, a text answer, and so on. You place them on Step 2 — Prepare Fields, after preparing the envelope.

Place and assign a field

  1. On the Prepare Fields step, use Select Recipient to choose the recipient you are placing fields for.
  2. From the Signer Fields tab on the left, drag a field onto the page where you want it.
  3. Repeat for each recipient. Field colours follow the recipient order, so you can tell at a glance who fills in what.

Assigning matters

Every field belongs to one recipient. A field's owner determines who can complete it, so make sure the right recipient is selected before you drag. You can change a field's owner later in its settings under Assigned Signer.

Field types

Signer fields are grouped into categories:

  • Identity — Title, Full Name, First Name, Last Name, Email, Contact Number (phone), Company, Address, Job Title.
  • Signature — Signature, Initials, Date Signed, Date Field.
  • Input — Text, Number, Amount, Dropdown, Multi-select, Radio Group, Checkbox.
  • Media & Documents — File Attachment, Image.
  • Static / layout — text block, image block, invoice table, simple table, divider, page number.

Field settings

Select a placed field to open its settings. Common options include Assigned Signer, Label, Placeholder, Tooltip, Required / Read Only, typography (size and colour), and appearance. Some types have their own options — for example a Dropdown or Radio Group lets you edit the choices, and a Date field lets you set its format.

A couple of constraints

A File Attachment field cannot be assigned to Me (Now), and no field can be assigned to a Receives a copy recipient. Checkbox and radio groups stay in sync as a group.

Doc Blocks

A second tab, Doc Blocks, offers richer content such as rich text, images, tables, and payment blocks. Doc Blocks are a paid add-on; unsupported blocks are marked Soon.
