What do the envelope statuses mean?
Understand Draft, Pending, Partially signed, Completed, Declined, and Voided — plus the Deleted, Expiring, and Awaiting views.
Every envelope shows a status that tells you where it is in the signing process. The status updates automatically as recipients open and sign, so you always know what to do next.
The statuses
- Draft — Created but not yet sent. It is still editable, and no one can see it but you.
- Pending — Sent and out for signature, but no one has signed yet.
- Partially signed — At least one recipient has signed, but others still need to.
- Completed — Everyone has finished. The envelope is done and shown in green.
- Declined — A recipient refused to sign. Shown in red.
- Voided — You cancelled the envelope after sending it. Shown in red.
Each recipient also has their own signer status — such as Sent, Viewed, Signed, Declined, Bounced, or Expired — which you can see on the envelope's Recipients tab and in the audit trail.
Views vs. statuses
Some items in the Envelopes sidebar look like statuses but are actually views — saved filters that pull together envelopes matching a rule:
- Awaiting my signature — Envelopes waiting for you to sign.
- Expiring soon — Envelopes with a signing deadline coming up.
- Deleted — Envelopes that were archived rather than permanently removed.
The sidebar also offers quick presets like All envelopes, Overdue, and For Me to Sign so you can jump straight to the group you care about.
