What are document blocks?
The Doc Blocks tab, the block types available, and how to add them to a document.
Document blocks are reusable, document-scoped elements you drop onto a document in the editor — a pricing table, a quote, a Pay button, rich text, images, and more. They are different from signer fields: a field (like a signature) is assigned to one recipient, whereas a block belongs to the document itself.
Where to find them
- Open a document in the editor (the Prepare Fields step of an envelope or template).
- In the left sidebar, switch from Signer Fields to the Doc Blocks tab. You'll see the note "Document-scoped elements — not assigned to individual signers."
- Use Search blocks… to filter the list.
How to add a block
- Drag a block from the Doc Blocks list onto the document canvas. (Blocks are added by drag-and-drop, not by clicking.)
- Select the block on the canvas to edit it in the right-hand settings panel. Some blocks (like tables and quotes) are also edited in place — double-click the block to add rows or items.
The block types
Blocks are grouped into categories:
- Content — Text (rich text).
- Media — Image and Video.
- Data — the Pricing / invoice table, the Quote builder, and the Payment (Pay) button. These are the blocks that price work and collect money.
- Navigation — Table of contents.
- Layout — Page break.
- Advanced — Smart / conditional content.
“Soon” blocks
Some blocks show a small Soon tag and can't be dragged yet — they're on the roadmap. Advanced smart/conditional content and table-of-contents settings are the main examples today.
Is the Doc Blocks tab locked?
The Doc Blocks tab is a plan feature. If it isn't included in your plan, the tab appears dimmed with a lock badge; hovering shows an Upgrade prompt.
If the tab is locked, ask your account owner to add document blocks to your plan. Owners can review plans and add-ons under Billing.
