How do I place fields on a template?

Use the Edit fields page to place signature and data fields on a template's documents.

After you have added documents and signer roles on the Set up page, you place the signature and data fields on the Edit fields page. These fields are saved with the template, so every envelope you start from it already has them in place.

Open the Edit fields page

  1. Open the Templates page and click a template to open its detail view.
  2. Click Edit fields. This opens the document editor with your template's documents.

On the template detail page, the two stages are labelled Set up (documents, signers, and messaging) and Edit fields (placing the fields). Do the Set up step first — you need documents and signer roles before there is anything to place fields on or assign them to.

Place the fields

  1. Choose a field type (such as signature, initials, date, or text) and drop it onto the document where it should appear.
  2. Assign each field to the signer role it belongs to.
  3. Position and size each field on the page.
  4. Save your changes.

Because fields are assigned to roles rather than to specific people, they automatically apply to whoever you assign to that role when you start an envelope from the template.

Once your fields are in place, the template is ready to use — see Use a template.
