How do I create a product?
Add a product to your inventory with images, variants, pricing, tax rules, a category and tags.
Products live under Inventory → Products. A product is created in the Product drawer, which is split into a few sections — product info, images, variants, tax rules and organisation. At least one variant is required, because pricing and stock are tracked per variant.
Create a product
- Go to Inventory → Products and open the new-product drawer.
- Under Product info, enter a Name (required, up to 200 characters) and an optional Description (up to 5000 characters).
- Add any Images — up to 10 per product, and up to 5 per upload.
- Add at least one Variant (see below).
- Optionally add Tax rules and set the Organization (category and tags).
- Save the product.
Variants
Every product needs at least one variant. Even a simple product that has no real variations still uses a single default variant to hold its price and stock.
For each variant you can set:
- Variant name (required)
- SKU
- Unit — one of ea, pcs, kg, g, lb, oz, m, cm, ft, l, ml, box, pack, set, pair, hr, day, or Other
- Supply type — Finite (stock is tracked) or Unlimited (stock is not tracked)
- Pricing — at least one per-currency price row
- Active — whether the variant is available for use
Pricing is per currency
Each variant needs at least one pricing row, and you can add a row per currency. When you add the product to an invoice, the price matching the invoice's currency is used.
Tax rules
You can attach zero or more tax rules to a product. Each rule combines:
- A Company tax rule (defined in your settings)
- A Tax mode — No tax, Exclusive, or Inclusive
- An optional Override rate %
- Active — whether the rule applies
When a product is added to an invoice line, its tax rule is loaded onto that line — unless tax has already been set at the invoice level.
Organization
Under the Organization section you can file the product for easy searching:
- Category — a single category (see Product categories)
- Tags — one or more tags (see Tags)
Archiving
When editing an existing product you can Archive it. Archiving keeps the record and its history but takes the product out of everyday use.
Using a product on an invoice
Once a product exists, open the Line items step of the invoice wizard and use the Inventory button to pick it. The product fills in the description, price and quantity, links the line to the product, and loads its tax rule (unless invoice-level tax is already set).
