Document payments
When is the payment collected?
Choose whether the signer pays after signing completes or before the envelope can finish.
When you set up a payment block, you decide when the signer is charged. There are two options, and they change what happens if the signer signs but doesn't pay.
The two options
- After signing completes — the signer signs first, and the payment is collected afterwards. Signing isn't blocked by the payment.
- Before completion — the envelope is not marked completed until the payment is made. Signing and paying are both required to finish.
Which should I choose?
Use Before completion when payment is a condition of the agreement and you don't want a completed document until you've been paid. Use After signing completes when signing is the priority and the payment is a follow-on step.
You set this on the payment block itself in the editor when you add the payment. See Add a payment to a document.
